Welcome to SecondOpinion.
Its a blog I am starting to offer a second opinion – mine – on matters ranging from the merely trivial and inconsequential to the weighty and substantial.
I intend to focus on India and its development. Two remarkable events took place in recent times.
Firstly, the rise of the new AAm Aadmi Party led by the indefatigable anti-corruption campaigner Arvind Kejriwal, took everyone by surprise. More then anything else AAP led to a huge level of interest in political activism among educated, young, idealistic, urban citizens. here was a party that had no previous baggage and it offered a break from a 60 year record of dynastic corrupt politics.
Secondly, the Bharatiya Janata Party, often referred to by foreign and English language media as ‘the right-wing, Hindu natioinalist BJP’, and led by Mr Narendra Modi, also referred to as a Hindu Nationalist leader, won handsomely in the General Election; for the first time in 30 years a single party can rule on its own without recourse to coalition support.
Taken together, there is a renewed hope that things will get better for the ordinary Indian citizen. But that’s all it is, hope, rather than expectation.
This blog will seek to offer an alternative opinion on issues in the news, hopefully one a week.
Why? What will it achieve? will anything be gained?
Who knows? But it has to be better than doing nothing.
